History of Graphology

Graphology or the analysis of handwriting has been under research for almost four hundred years. The first person to present a systematic and practical observation on handwriting was Camillo Baldi in the year 1622.

Camillo published the first known graphological essay in the world. The term ‘graphology’ was introduced by Abb Jean-Hippolyte Michon in Paris. He coined this word by combining two Greek words - ‘Graphe’ meaning to write and ‘logos’ meaning science.

Michon’s pupil, J. Crepieux-Jamin continued his professor’s work and divided writing into the 7 basic elements - speed, form, pressure, continuity, direction, dimension, and order.
